Ronnie Belmans

Ronnie Belmans has been the chairman of the board of directors of ELIA, the Belgian transmission grid operator, since 2002. He received a M.S. degree in electrical engineering in 1979 and a Ph.D. degree in 1984, both from the K.U.Leuven, Belgium, a Special Doctorate in 1989 and a Habilitierung in 1993, both from the RWTH, Aachen, Germany. Currently, he is a full professor with the K.U.Leuven, teaching electric power and energy systems. His research interests include techno-economic aspects of power systems, power quality and distributed generation. He is also guest professor at Imperial College of Science, Medicine and Technology, London-UK as well as co-founder of the KULeuven Energy Institute and of the European Energy Institute.

Pierre Bernard

Pierre is currently Secretary General of the Elia Group, the Belgian electricity transmission system operator. Pierre is also in charge of the European Development department, which includes European affairs and business development. He heads the Elia team involved in setting up a regional electricity market for the countries of Belgium, France, Luxemburg, Germany and The Netherlands. With his department, he was deeply involved in the structuring the first contracts and negotiations regarding the connection of off shore wind farms to the Eia grid.
Pierre joined Elia in January 2001, just before Elia was named as the Belgian electricity transmission system operator. As such, he actively participated in the drafting of important parts of the Belgian electricity legislation and regulation, including the electricity grid codes, assisted in the transposition in Belgian law of the second European electricity Directive and was quite active in the drafting of the new multi-year tariff regulation in Belgium.
With his team of in-house lawyers, Pierre drafted the main grid-contracts. He played a key role in drafting the specific legislation and contracts for the Belgian Power Exchange, Belpex. He designed the current corporate structure of the Elia group, including the very specific corporate governance structure of Elia Pierre is also a Trustee of the Belgian Governance Institute, Guberna.
Besides his activities for Elia, Pierre heads the ETSO Legal Task Force regrouping lawyers from more than 25 different jurisdictions in ETSO, the European association of electricity transmission operators. He has the same function within UCTE (European TSO association for technical standards, etc.).

Denis Cagney is Director Energy Networks at the Commission for Energy Regulation, (CER) since 2000 and has responsibility for the regulation of the transmission and distribution of electricity and gas. Prior to joining CER, Denis was Head of EU/Competition Law at Matheson Ormsby Prentice Solicitors, Dublin from 1992. Before that he worked with the European Commission (Directorate General for Competition) and with the Department of Finance of Dublin.

Carl Göran Dandanell is currently the Director & Head of Business Development for Vattenfall’s UK office. He has previously held positions of Head of Business Development and M&A within Vattenfall's largest Business Unit Power Generation, in the Nordic Region and was Head of Vattenfall's Latin American Business, stationed in Miami, Florida, for 5 years.
Mr. Dandanell has also worked for the Dutch utility NUON B.V. as Global Chief Growth Officer.

Imar Doornbos

Imar Doornbos is Senior Administrator, Energy and Sustainability with the Ministry of Economic Affairs of The Netherlands. His main focus is on the development of Offshore Wind Power.
He has been working on the development of Offshore Wind Power in the Netherlands since 2004. He led the projects Connect II (Grid Integration of Wind Power, 2004-2005), Electricity Storage (2007) and Offshore Grid Responsabilities (2008). Imar is member of the EWEA Wind Energy Technology Platform.
Within the Ministry of Economic Affairs he has also held different positions in the field of Regional Economic Development, Shipbuilding, Export Credits, Foreign Economic relations and Renewable Energy. In these positions he normally focused on the international dimensions of the topics. This also led him to accept jobs with the European Commission on Competition Policy (1989-1992) and the Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on Trade Policy (1997-1999).

Robert Hull

Robert Hull joined Ofgem as Director of Transmission in 2005. He leads the team responsible for all aspects of electricity and gas transmission policy, including offshore transmission. He led the recent transmission regulatory reviews which set price controls up to 2012.
Previously, he held several senior management roles with National Grid, primarily helping to establish the company’s international businesses in the energy and infrastructure sectors. His early career included experience in power generation and system operation.

Mr. Peter Jørgensen was appointed Vice President of the Danish electricity and gas TSO Energinet.dk when the company was formed in 2005. In Energinet.dk Mr. Jørgensen is responsible for the planning of both electricity and gas transmission systems in Denmark. Before the merging of the electricity and gas TSO's, Mr. Jørgensen has worked with planning of the electricity system since 1987.

Prof. W. L. Kling is responsible for network strategy with TenneT, the Dutch Transmission System Operator. His experience is in the area of planning and operation of power systems. He is also involved in scientific organizations such as Cigré and IEEE and is a part-time professor at the Electric Power Systems Laboratory of the Delft University of Technology as well as at the Eindhoven University of Technology.
Prof. KlingHe is the Dutch Representative in the Cigré Study Committee C6 Distribution Systems and Dispersed Generation as well as the Eurelectric/UCTE WG SYSTINT. He received his M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in 1978.

Michael Lewis

Michael Lewis has a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a masters degree in Pollution and Environmental Control from the University of Manchester. He also holds a masters degree in Environmental Law and a Diploma in Accounting and Finance. He has worked in the energy industry for over fourteen years and originally worked in various technical and environmental roles, before moving into corporate strategy and development. He was formerly UK Strategy Manager for Powergen, and following the acquisition of Powergen by E.ON, he moved to E.ON AG headquarters in Düsseldorf where he became Vice-President, Corporate Development. In this role he led E.ON’s Group Carbon Strategy project, and following completion of this project he was appointed as Managing Director for Europe on the Board of E.ON Climate & Renewables, the new market unit that has taken responsibility for all of E.ON’s Renewables and JI/CDM activities.

Jussi Matilainen

Jussi Matilainen was born in Helsinki, Finland in 1970. He received his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland in 1996. He has worked on power control issues and as a switching device specialist at Fingrid, the Finnish Transmission System Operator. Currently, he is working on transmission grid planning and he is responsible for power system market model and wind power issues at Fingrid. He is the leader of the NORDEL's market model group. He has been involved in European wind integration study (EWIS) and he is preparing his licentiate's degree regarding the wind power impacts on the Finnish power system.

As department director in HEP-TSO LLC (HEP-Operator prijenosnog sustava d.o.o.) is in charge of development and institutional affairs.
His background is electrical power engineering with major in power system control at University in Zagreb. After finalising his graduate studies he joined the Transmission Divison of HEP (“Hrvatska elektroprivreda” / “Croatian Electricity Utility”) and later moved to Siemens Power Transmission and Distribution. He was then in HEP Development Department and then he moved to HEP-Transmission LLC in the position of senior adviser for international co-operation and grid development. His present company HEP-TSO was established in 2005 (by merger of HEP-Transmission and CROISMO) when he was appointed to his present position.
Since 2001, Damjan is active as a member of several UCTE, ETSO, SETSO/SUDEL and EURELECTRIC bodies (Steering Committees, Assemblies, Working Groups, Task Forces…). As a member of working groups on Energy and Trans-European Networks he is involved in the negotiating process for the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the EU.
Besides he participates in a range of other national and international projects and activities with various partners (e.g. in South East Europe under framework of Energy Community Treaty etc.). Damjan is author and co-author of several papers and articles on various electricity related topics for Croatian and international conferences and publications.

Sir John Mogg was appointed the non-executive Chair of Ofgem from 1 October 2003. He was the Director General, Internal Market and Financial Services at the European Commission for the previous 10 years, following a period as the Deputy Director General, Industry, again at the Commission, from 1990 to 1993.
He was elected Chairman of the European Regulators Group for Electricity and Gas (ERGEG), in December 2005. He is also the President of the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER).
He previously held posts in the UK as Deputy Head, European Secretariat, at the Cabinet Office and Principal Private Secretary to three Secretaries of State together with other senior posts at the Department of Trade and Industry. After University he spent 8 years in the private sector.

John Overton is a Deputy Director in the Renewable Energy and Innovation Unit of the UK's Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR). He is a member of the Renewables Deployment Team that is tasked with addressing barriers to renewable deployment in the UK. John heads up the team addressing one of the key barriers that renewables generators in the UK face, that is obtaining a connection to the electricity grid. This work stream includes addressing the issues of access, the grid queue and the development of the new offshore transmission regime.

Jacques-Andre Troesch

Mr. Troesch is a graduate from the Ecole Nationale d’Administration, the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris, the Université de Paris and the University of Exeter.
Since 2008, he has been working as Commissioner for the French Energy Regulatory Commission and has been a member of the European Regulatory Group for Electricity and Gas (ERGEG), the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER), the Energy Community Regulatory Board (ECRB) as well as of the Mediterranean Regulatory Group (MEDREG). Mr. Troesch is also private adviser to Mr Raymond Barre on economic, financial and international affairs.
Prior to his involvement in French and European energy policy, Mr. Troesch has been involved with the French Information Highways Commission, where he was co-author of the White Paper on information highways. He has also been Head of Multilateral Trade Bureau at the French Ministry of Economy and Finance and has occupied several high-level positions in the fields of governemtn and industry relations at the French and European level.
Mr. Troesch is also a member of the French Delegation of the French-Japanese Forum of Dialogue, Vice-President of the French Committee for the Japanese Praemium Imperiale, President of the Admission and Qualification Board of the AACC (Association des Agences Conseils en Communication) as well as President of the Institut de Recherche et de Formation socio-Economique.

Sergio Martinez Villanueva

Sergio began his career working in control engineering for power stations. He now works for the Network Studies Department in Red Eléctrica de España, the Spanish TSO, where he focuses on large scale wind energy production and its integration onto the grid.
He is currently involved in the EWIS project (European wind integration study) and is looking at the issues related to transient stability. Sergio is also involved in the development of models, in tuning power system stabilizers and in electromagnetic transient studies.
Sergio is an graduate of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

Nigel Williams

Nigel is an Electrical Engineer by background and after graduating, spent 5 years on oil/gas exploration crews worldwide. He joined National Grid in 1989 and has worked his way through (and survived) the operational and control-room environments. He joined New Business Development in 1992 and has since spent 8 years on overseas postings in Asia, Latin America and the USA on power and telecoms ventures. Nigel returned to the UK in 2003 and was Director of the BETTA project until go-live in April 05. He is now the Customer Services Manager in UL Transmission with responsibility for all National Grid’s gas and electric connection contracts and also for gas and electricity tariff setting and recovery of regulated income. Nigel is a Chartered Engineer and has a Masters degree in Engineering Management.

Hannes Agabus

Hannes Agabus started working for Nelja Energia LLC in early 2007. His main tasks are the development of new sphere of activities including offshore wind park development, energy forecasting and trading and joint implementation (JI) projects.
Previous to this position, Hannes worked five years as a grid specialist for Estonian TSO (OÜ Põhivõrk), where he focused on general energy system planning (development plans), planning of wind generators integration into Estonian energy system and project management. Hannes was project manager for constructing the first large wind park in Estonia (18,4MW) connection point with Estonian TSO.
Hannes is currently finishing a PhD at Tallinn University of Technology on the topic of the possible technical-economical solutions for large-scale wind energy grid integration in an open energy market. He also worked on the Baltic Transmission Grids working paper “Baltic Grid 2012”, was a member of the Baltic Transmission Grid companies working group (project “Baltic Grid 2025”) as well as the Estlink 2 HVDC sea cable initial feasible study.
He is a board member of the Estonian Wind Power Association (EWPA).

Mota Duarte has a degree in Electrical Engineer by the Lisbon University, Portugal, in the specialty of Generation, Transmission and Distribution Systems. He began his career in the EDP – Electricity of Portugal Group 1977, where his experience is involved in the several main areas of interest regard equipment design to high voltage substation (constructive, tests, insulation coordination, earthings aspects) and since 1994 is the responsible engineer for Overhead Lines (150 kV, 220 kV and 400 kV) Project Department in the Portuguese National Grid (Portuguese TSO), at the Transmission Lines Department in Lisbon. He has been since 1997 until 2001 responsible by the Transmission Lines Department (Design and Construction of Overhead Lines and Underground Lines). Since 2001 until now, is Deputy Director of the Equipment Division (Design and Construction of Overhead Lines and Substations) and coordinate the integration/connection of the Special Regime Generation in the National Transmission Network (high voltage).
Since 1996 until 2001 is Portuguese Member of Study Committee 22 (Overhead Lines) of the International Council on Large Electric Systems - CIGRÉ. In 2000 finished a degree at the Management and Business School (AESE) in Lisbon.
